Pet Door, Dog Door, Cat Door Reviews
ELECTRONIC AUTOMATIC PET DOOR REVIEWS
The automatic pet door was invented and patented in 1986 in Billings, Montana by Solo Pet Doors, where the cold weather and heat prompted the need for a pet door with greater weather sealing, and to assist small pets access without pushing a heavy or awkward flap pet door. Many pets are afraid of pushing a door or flap to go outside. Solo Pet Doors open up and down automatically by itself.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
HOW DOES THE SOLO PET DOOR WORK?
Your pet wears a small magnetic (no batteries) called a Pet Tag, that is key ringed to the pet’s collar buckle. When your pet moves in front of the pet door (3 feet away), the Pet Tag will trigger the pet door to open automatically! You can control how far away the door opens. The range is from 1 foot to 3 feet away. You can also control how long the door stays open, from 1 second to 12 seconds. The Pet Door opens in an up & down sliding motion. For OBVIOUS SAFETY reasons, the door descends SLOWLY by GRAVITY ONLY, in a safe and gentle way so not to hurt the smallest pet. Only the upward opening motion is motorized. You can be assured that after 25 years building Solo Pet Doors, it has never hurt a single pet. We love animals as much as you do!

WILL SOLO PET DOORS LAST FOREVER?
Solo Pet Door frames are made and hand welded in the USA, California to be exact. They are NOT made in China like many other pet doors on the market. The pet door frame is made of 2” x 4“ Anodized Aluminum tubing. The sliding door is made of LEXAN, which is the same bullet-proof material used on windows!

SOLO PET TAGS DO NOT USE BATTERIES
Solo Pet Tags are magnets and do NOT require batteries! They come in 3 sizes: Small, Medium, and Large. For a small cat, the pet tag will be within inches from the Solo Pet Door, while a Large dog stands a foot or more from the door, that’s why the larger tag compensates for the greater distance from the pet door. Unlike other normal magnets, our pet tag magnets do NOT lose their magnetism over time and are relatively inexpensive. Since the Solo pet tags are magnets, they are WATERPROOF and do NOT require batteries. As long as your pet is wearing the magnetic pet tag, it is 100% reliable.

HI TECH POWER PET DOOR REVIEW
→ Hi Tech Power Pet has copied Solo Pet Doors, but have ONLY 2 sizes, Small and Medium.
→ Hi Tech Power Pet doors are all Made in CHINA. Make sure to check with CONSUMER REPORTS before purchasing Hi Tech Power Pet doors. All Solo Pet Doors are made in California, USA!
→ Hi Tech Power Pet Collar tags are Big & Bulky at 1 ½” x 2” x 1/2“ and require Batteries. They state that their ultra-sonic collar tags are “Water Resistant”. That is because they are NOT WATERPROOF! Solo Pet tags are magnets, so they are 100% waterproof.
→ Hi Tech Power Pet Collar tags are ultra-Sonic and can FALSELY open the pet door from up to 20 feet away if your floor is tile, hard wood, Linoleum, or any hard flooring. Since the sonic ultra-sound BOUNCES off surfaces, it will create false activation causing the pet door to open.
→ The rattling of keys and the pitter pattering of rain can also activate the door. The LARGE COLLAR is TOO bulky for cats and small dog breeds, and cost $40 each. They sell an inexpensive door, but it requires an EXPENSIVE and unreliable bulky collar. Pets lose their collars and pet tags break off and need to be replaced often, so high-priced pet tags will add up quickly. Solo Pet Tags are only $12.
→ Hi Tech Power Pet doors have so many complaints about their product that they do not answer the phone and send the customer through a maze of phone extensions resulting in “leave a message”.
→ So how does Solo Pet Doors know about these problems with Hi Tech Power Pet doors? It’s because we get so many calls from unhappy Hi Tech Power Pet door customers complaining about Hi Tech Power Pet doors, and then purchasing a Solo Pet Door.
→ Bottom-line, Hi Tech Power Pet doors are cheap automatic pet doors that just won’t hold up to pet use and abuse.
PLEXIDOOR ELECTRONIC PET DOOR REVIEW
→ Plexidoor ONLY manufactures one (1) size door.
→ Plexidoor is VERY expensive.
→ Plexidoor door is only 21” high. For large dog, such as a Lab, the door has to be installed 6” to 10” off the floor. For older dogs this height will be a problem when the dog has arthritis or hip issues, making it too difficult for large dogs to step over the high elevation of the opening while still having comfortable headroom when entering and exiting the house. EASE of access is IMPERATIVE for OLDER dogs to prevent ACCIDENTS.
→ Having the door lower to the ground allows small dog breeds and cats to use the larger size dog door, allowing you to have one door for both small and large pets.
→ Plexidoor uses a FRID frequency collar tag, which is too large for cats and small dogs. They only operate at a short distance, approximately 1 foot away. This is a problem for large dogs, which by nature with their long neck, will logically stand 2 to 3 feet away from the door, which can make the dog frustrated and claw and pound on the door and trim work trying to get it to open.
→ Solo Pet Doors can be adjusted to operate reliably from 1 to 3 feet away. Which will accommodate ALL sized pets using ALL 10 sizes of our pet doors.
→ ALL Solo Pet Door Parts are available for purchase on the parts page of our website, and all replacement parts are designed to be easily replaced by the average handy homeowner.
PET SAFE / ANIMATE / ELITE / SURESAFE / IDEAL PET DOOR REVIEW
→ These pet doors are NOT automatic pet doors.
→ They work where the pet wears a collar and gets really close to the door flap and a latch releases and allows the pet to push the flap open in order to exit.
→ Many smaller pets are VERY reluctant and nervous, especially after a bad experience getting trapped when backing up, or snagged by the solid flap, and will NEVER again use a flat type door.
→ My 3 ½ pound Chihuahua would NEVER use a flap pet door.
→ With a Solo Pet Door, your pet does nothing but walk up to the door and it automatically opens completely leaving a safe opening for the pet to easily walk through.
